What is the procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability?
Students with special needs who are enrolled at Karlstad University should contact co-ordinator Birgitta Winander or Jenny Karlsson, or if you are a student at Ingesund School of Music, Salome Persson, via e-mail [email protected]. Please make sure to contact the university in good time in order to receive the support you need right from the start.
Necessary documents to provide
In order to receive study support you must provide a doctor’s certificate or equivalent documentation confirming your special needs.
What can students expect?
Students with special needs have the right to study support to help complete their studies. Karlstad University offers help with note-taking, alternative examination formats and a special resource room, among other things.

Adjustments for students with disabilities
Adjustments can be made available for students under certain conditions, based on a needs assessment upon arrival at the University.
What adjustments for studies can be made for students?
- May bring a note taker to educational activities
- May bring a personal assistant to educational activities
- May bring a Sign Language interpreter to the educational activities
- May request adjusted courses materials: size, font and font size, braille, etc.
- May request the course material in digital format
