The general definition of disability is applied in higher education policy documents and legal acts: person with disabilities – a person with substantial physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which, when combined with various barriers, may hinder his/her full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others (Law Of Georgia On The Rights Of Persons With Disabilities)
In addition, there are specific provisions of the law of Georgia on Higher Education in this regard:
- higher education institution shall provide appropriate learning conditions for students with disabilities
- higher education institution shall allocate benefits for students with disabilities in order to provide them with the necessary conditions for the acquisition of appropriate education as provided for by the legislation of Georgia and the statute of the higher education institution.
