What is the procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability?
The procedure for applying for a disadvantage compensation is initiated by the students concerned. The application must be submitted within a reasonable time frame before an examination, and the disability must be made credible. The application for a disadvantage compensation is submitted at the examination offices of the respective faculties. The ZAB can offer support during the application process.

The ZAB will assist students individually according to their needs. Students can expect a close and professional assistance for all issues or concerns.

Preparatory visits
What is the procedure to request a preparatory visit?
Preparatory visits are being developed at Bielefeld University. To support visits of students and scholars from abroad, the International Office will coordinate the service bodies according to the needs of the visitors. The university will update students regarding this issue.
What can be expected from the preparatory visit?
Students can expect personally and professionally addressed solutions to receive an impression of the university’s infrastructure and offers. Questions and requirements can be exchanged accordingly.
Welcoming activities
What specific information is provided for students with disabilities during the orientation days?
The International Student Services Centre (ISSC) organizes introductory days for degree-seeking students before the semester starts and an orientation programme during the semester in order to prepare this group of students for their studies at Bielefeld University. The introductory days usually take place in March/April (Summer Semester) and September/October (Winter Semester).
Specific measures can be taken for students with special needs whenever possible. Please contact us as soon as possible via [email protected].
