Procedure to be recognised as a student with fewer opportunities
What is the procedure to be recognised as a student with fewer opportunities?
Outgoing: Students can apply for funds through the Erasmus+ program, "Studienbeihilfebehörde", hardship fund by the Student Union or the Equality of Mobility-grant.
Incoming: Exchange Students only have to pay the Students' Union fee of around 22€. Other than that no additional funds are provided.

What is the procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability?
This procedure is for our outgoing students. For incoming mobility, please get in touch with Veronika Merklein ([email protected]):
The following documents and the application form have to be handed in at the home institution to prove the recognition of disability. Disabled students (more than 50%) can apply for a deduction at the Department for Student and Academic Affairs: https://www.dieangewandte.at/academic_affairs
Application deadline: Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis. Applications must be received at the International Office as early as possible before the start of the stay. It is recommended that applications be submitted to the International Office 10 weeks before the start of the stay.
Necessary documents to provide
o Application form
o Proof of disability: the participant must provide officially recognized proof of disability (e.g. copy of disability passport, notice of lower degree of disability).
o If no disability passport is available: original medical certificate not older than three months explaining the extent of the disability/illness and its impact on academic mobility.
o Statement of costs: The application must contain a detailed statement of the increased costs, whereby the additional costs indicated must be documented as far as possible (cost estimates, research, etc.).
o A statement of financial support provided by other agencies (if applicable).
o For student mobility, the application must indicate that the total requested costs are greater than the total monthly top-up for students with fewer opportunities for the entire duration of the stay.

Adjustments can be made available for students under certain conditions, based on a needs assessment upon arrival at the University.
What adjustments for studies can be made for students?
- May bring a note taker to educational activities
- May bring a personal assistant to educational activities
- May bring a Sign Language interpreter to the educational activities
- May request adjusted courses materials: size, font and font size, braille, etc.
- May request the course material in digital format
- May request to record lectures
- May use a laptop, tablet or iPad during lectures
- May use elevators and other access facilities on campus
What adjustments for exams can be made for students?
- May bring a note taker to oral and written exams
- May bring a personal assistant to the exam for practical help at the beginning and end of the exam
- May bring a Sign Language interpreter to oral exams
- May move the exams to the appropriate catch-up exam period within the same exam period
- May take a seat in separate exam room for written exams
- May take more preparation time before the oral exam
- May take more time for the written exam
- May use a laptop, tablet or iPad with assistive software during exams
- May use a laptop, tablet or iPad with standard software during exams

What extra financial support for incoming students with disabilities is offered?
Unfortunately additional financial support has to be requested at your home institution. There is a special inclusion fund by the Erasmus+ program for mobilities.

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT (short-term support)
Going abroad can be a troubling situation. Therefore, our university offers short-term support regarding problems, conflicts and crises related to work and personal issues, conflicts in your study environment and | or work restrictions, uncertainties and anxiety - also with regard to the design of your future, stressful mental states and addiction problems.
