Procedures for students

Procedure to be recognised as a student with fewer opportunities

This institution has not provided information about how to be recognised as a student with fewer opportunities.

Procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability

The student contacts the student counsellor via email. They make an appointment and discuss the situation.

What can the student counsellor do for you?

First of all, you can talk to counsellor confidentially about your situation. He/she can also support you in applying for regulations and facilities, for example with tests, student grants or advice. The aim is to offer you, as much as possible, the same opportunities as other students.

To prevent problems from becoming bigger than necessary, it is important that you contact the counsellor in an early stage.

What topics can you discuss with a student counsellor? For example:

  • Studying with a disability or chronic illness (for example: physical disability, learning disabilities such as dyslexia, AD(H)D, autism, psychiatric problems)
  • Study delay due to personal problems (illness, psychological problems, family circumstances, relational problems, …)
  • Study stress (time management, concentration problems, fear of failure, ...)
  • Study choice (doubt about your study choice, change of study programme, ...)
  • Financial matters related to the study (study grant, financial problems, ...)

Legislation and regulations (student charter, education and examination regulations, Student Finance Act).

It depends on the specific situation of each student.

The Marnix Academie believes inclusion is important and wants to contribute to equal opportunities for everyone and the best education for all students. This means that everyone, regardless of culture, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation or socio-economic background, should feel welcome at the Marnix Academie.

We provide fair and equitable opportunities to all potential participants. In case we expect potential troubles within the study period, we try to find adaptive solutions. If a student is going to study with a physical, sensory and / or mental disability, a chronic illness or another disorder, measures can be taken to make studying possible.

A student counsellor, who is available for guidance, can advise or refer a student to other specialists in case personal problems arising from illness, disability or psychosocial circumstances. Each student will also be guided by a study coach. All support is mainly aimed at optimizing the study success and overall wellbeing. All students will have access to the same facilities.

As a teacher education institute, the Marnix Academie educates teachers and other education professionals for primary education in The Netherlands. We want to contribute to the best education for every pupil in the primary schools in the diverse context of The Netherlands. This means we aim to educate our students to recognize and acknowledge diversity in their classrooms, and to benefit from this diversity in the design of their education.

This institution has not provided information about if the procedure applies for both local and international students
