Procedures for students
Procedure to be recognised as a student with fewer opportunities
Procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability
What is the procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability?
Utrecht University defines a disability as follows: a disability is a chronic disorder (diagnosed by a certified professional) that can hinder a student’s ability to participate fully in (higher) education.
In most cases, students will need to apply for practical (examination) provisions and facilities in OSIRIS. For all other disability related questions, students may contact the study advisor of the study programme.
Necessary documents to provide
A diagnosis by a certified professional is the main requirement. Any other (supporting) documentation will depend on the circumstances, and the specific programme the student is planning to enrol in.
What can students expect?
Utrecht University wants to ensure that all students feel welcome and receive the support they need to make the most of their studies.
If you have a disability, you can apply for special facilities and support. Students will need to apply for practical provisions and support online, in OSIRIS. Log in details for OSIRIS will be sent once the student has been registered/enrolled at UU.

Services and Support
Financial support
What extra financial support for incoming students with disabilities is offered?
Please see www.uu.nl/bachelors/financialmatters and www.uu.nl/masters/financialmatters for general financial information about studying at UU.
Exchange students can apply for additional Erasmus+ funding at their home institution.
Medical and Psychological support
Housing support
Are there any accessible services at the residences?
Utrecht University does not own student houses. The university reserves housing with external housing providers for international students, availability is limited and not guaranteed. Please see www.uu.nl/housing for further information.
The accommodations the university reserves for international students are not specifically adapted for students with a disability, this also applies for services at the buildings such as laundry room and other communal areas. In some cases the accommodation is suitable for students with a disability, depending on their requirements. The university will look into individual requirements once the student indicates this in their application to see if they can be met. The university is looking for possibilities to include housing which is adapted for students with a disability in their programme.

Preparatory visits
What is the procedure to request a preparatory visit?
We do not have a predefined procedure for this but the student may always contact the (central International Office) or one of the faculty International Offices so we can make arrangements.
What can be expected from the preparatory visit?
Depending on the needs of the student, we would suggest a visit to the receiving faculty and an appointment with the study advisor of the programme. This can also be scheduled and arranged online.
