Procedures for students
Procedure to be recognised as a student with fewer opportunities
Procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability
What is the procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability?
The PThU is committed to create a healthy study environment for all its students. This way, all students get equal opportunities in education. Students with an attested disability or physical problems can submit a request via the academic advisor for education or examination measures (e.g. extra time for exams, the use of a laptop for written exams).
Applicants with special needs should contact the academic counsellor ([email protected]) and clearly explain their situation and needs. In a meeting with the academic counsellor your questions and measures that have helped you in the past will be discussed. Some measures, the ones potentially influencing the realisation of exams, must be approved by the Examination Committee. Since the measures may not influence the possibility to see whether you meet the learning outcomes/goals, even though the way towards this goal might differ. We want to give all students equal opportunities, so everyone can fully participate in education and examens.
Necessary documents to provide
Anyone wishing to be recognised as a student with special needs must be able to submit the following documents:
- A declaration by a recognised health practitioner or specialist about the handicap/disability and the way this influences your studies and preferably suggestions about helpful measures.
- A declaration of your home educational institution with the measurements which have been taken for you until now.
What can students expect?
You can expect from us that we will do our utmost best to satisfy your special needs and to integrate you in our academic and social community. Our academic counsellor and the international student mentors will be there for you.
More specifically the academic counsellor invites you to make an appointment as soon as you know you will come to the PThU for your studies, but at least two months before the first class you will attend. This way, we will have the time to organise whatever is necessary – within the limit of the reasonable – to give you a good start and study time at our university. You can contact the academic counsellor via [email protected] with your questions or to make an appointment.
