The staff at the University of Iceland Student Counselling Centre (UISCC) offers students counselling and support during their studies, e.g. about academic choice, study skills, and tools for job searching. UISCC supports students' equality and diversity, e.g. by providing disability services during studies and exams and offering psychological services.

The International Division oversees and manages the international affairs of the University of Iceland. The division is responsible for administrating and developing international student exchange agreements along with participation in international networks and cooperation with academic partners.

We welcome about 2000 international students annually and provide various services for incoming international students and visiting staff.

Procedure to be recognised as a student with fewer opportunities

Procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability

Students need to provide documents from an appropriate specialist and send an online application in Ugla (UI Intranet). Students are also welcome to book an appointment at the Student Counselling Centre with a counsellor, see here: https://english.hi.is/student_counselling_centre 
Please note that the final date to apply for assistance and support during studies and examination is October 1st for fall semester and March 1st for spring semester. 

Diagnosis of specific learning difficulties:
Students need to present a document of diagnosis from a specialist to receive accommodation due to specific learning difficulties.

Medical certificates:
Students need to present documents from a physician or a specialist confirming their illness, disabilities, autism etc. when they apply for assistance and support during their studies and/or examination. The document issued must contain the following information:

  • Explanation of the illness or disability in question.
  • How the illness or disability affects the student´s mental and/or physical abilities to pursue higher education.
  • Name and title of the physician or specialist who initially diagnosed the disease or disability and when the diagnosis was made.

Exchange students: 

Exchange students who already have an agreement with their home university on assistance and support in their studies can present a confirmation from their university on the support that they are receiving.

Assistance and support for students is decided by UI councellors based on documentation from a specialist and on information provided by student.

  • Access to class and exam facilities.
  • Extended exam time.
  • Exam text with large font size in paper exams.
  • Exam writer.
  • Digital study materials.
  • Peer assistance for disabled students.

Access to Icelandic social insurance service is depending on citizenship. The health care clinics offer various medical and nursing services, general medical service, general nursing care, infant and maternity service, school nursing, vaccinations for adults, health care for the elderly etc. 

The health clinic's activities are directed towards neighborhood services and are expected to serve inhabitants of particular parts of the capital city area.
