Procedures for students

Procedure to be recognised as a student with fewer opportunities

This institution has not provided information about how to be recognised as a student with fewer opportunities.

Procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability

Special requirements are recognised as special needs based on student's official request. The application is available in the Masaryk University Information system. The request is approved by the vice-dean of the student's faculty. Following (or preceeding) the request, a meeting between the student and a Teiresias Centre staff member is arranged to discuss the requirements and available service provisions. The interview focuses on the actual impact of student's medical condition on his/her studies. It covers previous experience with services, study habits, behavior in stressful situations etc.

Upon approval by the vice-dean, the service provisions (description of the difficulties as well as a list of reasonable adjustments) are displayed in the Masaryk University Information system. This information is available only to student's teachers and study counsellors.

  • confirmation of the study provision from home institution
  • medical report
  • report from a pedagogical & counselling centre

About the Teiresias Centre

The official name is the Support Centre for Students with Special Needs has been a central office of Masaryk University since the year 2000. The Centre's primary task is to provide maximum accessibility to all accredited degree programmes at the University for the visually impaired, the deaf and hearing impaired, people with limited or restricted mobility and people with other types of disabilities. In the University's organizational structure, the Centre is an independent body under the direct jurisdiction of rector and supervised by the vice-rector for studies.

Communication with the (incoming) students

  • After initial contact and prior to the student's arrival, the mobility coordinator for students with special needs arranges a first kick-off meeting with the incoming students to learn more about their special requirements.
    • This is mainly to give the centre an idea about the range of services, which will need to be provided upon student's arrival.
    • Depending on the special requirements, specialists might get involved to provide input on the available service provisions. These might include colleagues from the Library section, Visual communication section, or the Special IT section, all stationed within the Teiresias Centre at MU.
