Procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability

We have several websites if a student needs any help or assistance regarding recognition or disability. These websites all have an email address that will link the student to a student counsellors ([email protected]), who will help the student. Due to strict privacy laws within the Netherlands only student counsellors are able to help students in this matter. The information is for degree seeking students as well for exchange students.

On the website (https://husite.nl/hu-helps-en/) a student can also find training sessions, workshops and support groups. Depending on the questions or wishes the website will guide the student to the correct department. Most of the times this will be our student counsellors.

Websites:

https://www.internationalhu.com/

https://husite.nl/hu-helps-en/

Depending on the situation, the student counsels could ask for some documents for an official diagnosis, for example: medical certificate, formal proof of dyslexia, notice from your physician or therapist, etc.

According to the Dutch Equal Treatment Act, those with disabilities are entitled to relevant accommodations to ensure their access to goods and services. In the case of students, this may include extra time during exams. A condition is that these accommodations do not place undue pressure upon the university. Do you want to know more? You can find further information and support via the website of The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights.

This institution has not provided information about if the procedure applies for both local and international students

Welcoming activities

Normally we have twice a year an introduction for incoming students abroad. There is a general introduction were the International Office provides the students about the Netherlands, the city Utrecht, information about insurance, doctors etc, etc. We also help en give them the keys to their new home. After the general introduction some faculties also give an extra introduction.

This year the ESN Utrecht are willing to pick up students from the airport and transport them to Utrecht (a student has to apply for this).
