Necessary documents to provide
In order to qualify for support facilities, a translation of a medical certificate stating the diagnosis in English is required.

Discuss with the study adviser of the educational programme or the student counsellor which documents need to be submitted or seen.
What can students expect?
Adjustments for students with disabilities
Adjustments can be made available for students under certain conditions, based on a needs assessment upon arrival at the University.
What adjustments for studies can be made for students?
- May bring a note taker to educational activities
- May bring a personal assistant to educational activities
- May bring a Sign Language interpreter to the educational activities
- May request adjusted courses materials: size, font and font size, braille, etc.
- May request the course material in digital format
- May request to record lectures
- May use a laptop, tablet or iPad during lectures
- May use elevators and other access facilities on campus
What adjustments for exams can be made for students?
Other adjustments and services for students with disabilities offered at the institution
All adjustments concerning exams are made in consultation with the study adviser and after approval of the examination board. At the University of Twente we use an individual approach based on the question and needs of the student. Together with the student and the study adviser of the educational programme, we look at what is possible in terms of measures.
A formal request for a changed format has to submit to the Examination Board. In the request explain what the personal situation is and why it is not possible for you to do a written (re)exam and explain what kind of format can/will help you. Ask the study programme's student advisor for advice on how to submit the request
A changed format of an exam has to be approved on forehand (at the start of the course).

Financial support
What extra financial support for incoming students with disabilities is offered?
Yes, financial support in case of study delay due to personal circumstances: https://www.utwente.nl/en/ces/sacc/regulations/fobos/force-majeure/
Students with certain types of residence permits, with the nationality of an EU/EEA country, Switzerland or the UK (or who have a parent or partner that is a citizen from one of these countries) may be eligible for Dutch student financing and benefit from exemption rules due to personal circumstances. Medical and Psychological support
Where to seek medical services?
The University of Twente offers general medical services on campus, including emergency service, a general practitioner, dentist and physiotherapist.
Student psychologists, part of Student Affairs Coaching & Counselling, are available for counselling after an appointment is made: https://www.utwente.nl/en/ces/sacc/
They generally offer up to 5 individual treatment sessions after an orientating conversation. Also, group therapy and workshops are offered.

- the student counsellor of Student Affairs Coaching & Counselling
- the study adviser of the educational programme

Information and advice about the support and services that can be offered and the individual arrangements that can be made.
Welcoming activities
What specific information is provided for students with disabilities during the orientation days?
Welcome days and facility market (held during introductory weeks) for incoming international students at the beginning of the academic year. The facility market (during the Kick-In introductory programme) provides opportunities for new students to find out about the facilities, services and associations the University of Twente has to offer.
