What is the procedure to be recognised as a student with a disability?
Students with all kinds of study-related impairments are welcomed by our instiution (e.g. students with physical or psychological impairments, chronic illnesses, reading or writing difficulties). The BeAble Team is at your disposal for an individual consulation (e.g. via telephone or video call) in order to clarify the best possible support.
Necessary documents to provide
Either a recent medical certificate issued by a specialist inluding recommendations for compensating for your impairment (German/English) or a documentation by our partner university, which confirms specific compensation for your impairment (e.g. special examination accomodations).
What can students expect?
Compensation for any disadvantages students may have.

Adjustments can be made available for students under certain conditions, based on a needs assessment upon arrival at the University.

- May bring a note taker to educational activities
- May bring a personal assistant to educational activities
- May bring a Sign Language interpreter to the educational activities
- May request adjusted courses materials: size, font and font size, braille, etc.
- May request the course material in digital format

- May use elevators and other access facilities on campus

- May bring a personal assistant to the exam for practical help at the beginning and end of the exam

Financial support
What extra financial support for incoming students with disabilities is offered?
Erasmus+ students can apply for the Erasmus+ special needs support, which is a financial support based on the actual additional financial burden caused by a student’s disability or illness.
Ask the Erasmus+ coordinator of your sending higher education institution about the application procedure.
Medical and Psychological support
Where to seek medical services?
There is no medical service department at the institution. To offer guidance and mental/emotional support for students, WU has installed a Student Counselling Program. Students can address a team of Psychologists and Life Counsellors whenever they experience difficulties, suffer under stress or anxieties or see themselves in difficult psycho-social situations.
Students can get in contact via Mail or telephone to ask for one-to-one-Counselling Sessions or take part in a Workshop/Group Counselling.

What specific information is provided for students with disabilities during the orientation days?
On our website you can find information about the Welcome Days, the Orientation & Cultural Program and the Pre-semester German language course. Of course information is also provided for students with disabilities. Please inform your regional coordinator at WU as early as possible about your condition to help us organize everything in time.
